RMU Releases Inaugural ESCHL Schedule

2009-12-03

27 Games Already Set; Team Looks To Fill 10 Additional Dates

(Pittsburgh, PA) – The Robert Morris Colonials are pleased to announce their tentative 2010-2011 schedule, their first as part of the ESCHL (eschlhockey.com).  In addition to their 16 league games against #6 Penn State, #8 Rhode Island, #11 Delaware, and #18 West Chester, the Colonials will play four games against perennial top-20 team #19 Stony Brook, three games against ranked opponents at the ACHA Midwest Showcase, two games at the Wooster Thanksgiving Classic, and two games against #21 RMU-Illinois in the Battle of Bobby Mo.  The team is also trying to work out a home-and-home series with #3 Liberty University, as well as securing an opponent for the Pittsburgh College Hockey Showcase at the new Consol Energy Center, future home of the Penguins.

Said former head coach Jason Evans, “We’re very pleased with where we are right now.  Being asked to join the ESCHL, one of the top leagues in the country, has definitely opened up some doors for us, recruiting and otherwise.  We’ve also kept open several dates to play our established rivals, and we’re hoping to bring in some teams from the newly formed GLCHL to round out our schedule.

“We’d also like to thank the teams of the ECHL, and specifically Commissioner Bill Shannon, for allowing us the privilege of playing in the league for the past five seasons.  The ECHL has been a great fit for us and has helped us get to where we are today, but it was time for us to move on.  Having said that, our guys really want to go out on top by winning our fourth consecutive regular season title and third consecutive championship.”

Dave Debol starred for Notre Dame High School where he won the state title in 1973. From there, he played at the University of Michigan where, as a

the Hartford Whalers.

Dave has coached high school hockey since 1999, beginning as Dexter High School head coach. Now he's entering his third season as U of M Dearborn Club Hockey

In addition to being co-owner of Hockey Masters, Dave skates with the Red Wing alumni team. He is married and lives in Saline with his son and daughter,

Dave Fryer Becomes Third Coach in Colonials History

(Pittsburgh, PA) – The Colonials are pleased to announce the hiring of their new head
coach, Dave Fryer. Said Armand Buzzelli, Assistant Director of Student Life, “Dave
brings a total of 11 years of coaching experience to RMU, including experience as an ACHA
D-1 head coach at Duquesne University. He was a finalist for the 2008-09 ACHA D-1
National Coach of the Year, has served as a board member for College Hockey Mid-America,
and currently serves as board member for the College Hockey East. We are excited to add
Dave to our program and look forward to a successful season next year.” Fryer becomes
the third head coach in the team’s history.

Said Coach Fryer, “I'm extremely happy to be the newest member of the RMU hockey family,
and I'm very much looking forward to keeping things moving in a positive direction.”

Coach Fryer’s first order of business will be to contact all the incoming recruits and
prospective players in order to build the team heading into next season. He will also be
adding to his coaching staff in the days ahead.

Coach Fryer can be reached at david.fryer@verizon.net, or 412-715-5531.

Dave Fryer is serving his second term as CHE Executive Assistant. Fryer was first
formally involved with the league during the 2004-05 season when he assisted with the CHE
playoffs and annual all-star game. In 2005, he became more involved with the league when
he joined the team at the California University of PA-I as an assistant coach. In his
two seasons at CUP-I, he played a key role in the Vulcan’s’ rise to national prominence
and won both the CHE Kaleina Cup (Regular Season) and CHE Championships in the 2006-07
season. Fryer has since accepted the position of Head Coach at Duquesne University,
where he is striving to establish their team as one of the perennial contenders for the
ACHA Division-I National Championship. He is highly regarded as one of the top coaches
in Western Pennsylvania, having a stellar track record of success at both the high school
and college levels.

Fryer was a driving force behind the addition of the Skills Competition to the CHE
All-Star Game. The new event was unveiled in 2006 in Johnstown under Fryer’s direction
and has been a yearly favorite among the players and the fans ever since. Fryer was also
a key component in the creation of the CHE-MET Showdown, annually coordinates the CHE
College Expo to expose college hockey opportunities to local high school players, and
brings a wealth of hockey knowledge to CHE rules and procedures as a coach,
administrator, referee, and former player.

Fryer played his high school hockey at West Allegheny, where he founded the team and went
on to become a team captain and league all-star. He then played his collegiate hockey at
the University of Pittsburgh, during which time he was a 3-year captain, a team MVP, and
twice led the team in scoring. During his playing time at Pitt, Fryer helped form the
University Hockey League, which was the first local, high-level collegiate hockey league
comprised entirely of ACHA teams.

Fryer graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2000 with a degree in psychology and
has an extensive background working in Information Technology. He was born and raised in
the Pittsburgh area and resides in Oakdale, PA. Fryer is also an avid NASCAR fan, a
Penguins season-ticket holder, and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
